We have an exciting opportunity for 2Ls to join our 2025 Summer Program as a Summer Associate.


Our Summer Program offers a strong educational component supported by practical learning opportunities. Summer Associates work hand-in-hand with Seyfarth partners, who are dedicated to ensuring their continued professional development. A team of partner and associate mentors will also provide individualized feedback and coaching.

 Our Summer Program is unique insofar as Summer Associates are assigned to a specific Department for the entire summer.  By working primarily with one Department, our Summer Associates gain deeper knowledge, insights and experiences of a particular practice, thus preparing you for your first year as a lawyer and beyond.  Although you’ll be assigned to one Department, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to meet and socialize with your fellow Summer Associates and with lawyers in other Departments both office-wide and firm-wide!

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

As a Summer Associate, you are given the opportunity to work alongside our attorneys on real client work.  A specialized curriculum tailored to your specific Department will help bridge the gap between your academic and experiential learning. Summer Associates will also work on actual client cases and projects and will have the opportunity to attend client meetings.  Summer Associates will also gain practical experience by shadowing attorneys on a variety of deals and cases in order to enhance your learning in the substantive course areas.
 
YOU HAVE:
  • One year of law school under your belt and expect your JD in May 2026;

COMPENSATION:

The hourly pay range for the Staff Attorney role is $85/hour - $95/hour. The hourly pay range for the Counsel role is $100 - $105.  These are the lowest to highest hourly wages we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s pay within the range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographical location and business or organizational needs. THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a Labor and Employment Counsel to join our specialized national/large portfolio team. This Counsel role is a substantially reduced schedule and salaried position designed to be flexible on location, and is a fully remote position with access to any of our local offices as needed. This is an exceptional and rare opportunity for experienced lawyers who do not seek to be in a partner-track position, but who want to continue to do sophisticated legal work with direct client involvement.

Candidates must be very comfortable handling single-plaintiff employment lawsuits from start through the summary judgment phase with minimal oversight. In this role, Counsel will routinely interface directly with clients and Firm partners, as well as provide litigation recommendations and develop defense strategy.

A Counsel will be dedicated to a somewhat limited number of client portfolios of employment work, such that the lawyer will become immersed in the business needs of a particular industry or industries and will be able to develop a deep knowledge of a client’s preferences, as well as grow the client relationship. The Counsel will be responsible for handling and litigating such clients’ portfolios within a particular geographic region, in addition to working directly with the relevant relationship partners to foster a stronger client relationship.

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

A Counsel in this role is responsible for leading and managing single-plaintiff cases and administrative charges. Lawyers in this role will handle matters in federal and state courts, and before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and perhaps the Department of Labor, as well as other federal, state, and local administrative agencies. They must be able to directly manage single-plaintiff litigation, including drafting responsive pleadings, handling all aspects of the discovery process (including taking and defending depositions), drafting motions and briefs, including motions for summary judgment, and occasionally attending and handling arbitration.  Additionally, they will work on EEOC Charges, including defending investigations, preparing position statements, defending clients in fact-finding conferences and on-site visits, representing clients in mediations and conciliations, and negotiating settlements. Occasional travel, both in-state and out-of-state, may be required.

YOU HAVE:

  • 7+ years of increasingly responsible employment law experience, preferably on the defense side.
  • Experience handling a single-plaintiff employment lawsuit from start to finish with minimal oversight.
  • Top law firm experience. 
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Stellar analytical skills; and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Admission to the California state bar.
