THE OPPORTUNITY:

As an Associate Data Scientist, you will work in a rapidly growing and market-leading eDiscovery, Information Governance and Analytics practice.  You will gather, structure, and analyze data in a manner that provides insight into its factual significance.

 

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

On any given day, you will be working with firm leadership, partners, and business colleagues on a variety of requests and projects. You will: 

  • Write programs to dynamically and reproducibly prepare datasets for analysis or data mining, including reshaping, normalization, aggregation and noise removal
  • Write programs and using relevant tools and applications to analyze, summarize and data mine complex data sets
  • Create interactive and static data visualizations, dashboards, and spreadsheets to show relevant case data, metrics and/or exposure for technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Implement process automation to minimize error-prone manual tasks and increase efficiency
  • Implement quality control mechanisms to ensure accuracy and defensibility of work product
  • Organize and document code sets to ensure efficient re-utilization and preservation of institutional knowledge
  • Identify and define new process improvement opportunities, and aiding in analysis templets
 

YOU HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or other quantitative disciplines
  • Experience programming in R in an academic or professional environment dealing with diverse types of data and communicating data insights
  • Strong attention to detail with an investigative mindset towards data analysis
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • The ability to work effectively across teams, learn new skills, and thrive in a fast paced and ever-changing environment
  • Experience working in a fast paced project-based academic research or professional environment with an ability to manage and meet deadlines and objectives
  • Experience displaying data insights in an intuitive manner for technical and non-technical audiences
  • 0-2 years of either academic research or professional experience in an analytical data driven environment
  • Experience with additional platforms/programming languages relevant to data science, including Python, STATA, SAS, SQL, Matlab, etc.
  • Experience with data manipulation libraries, including dplyr
  • Experience with data visualization tools, especially Tableau

THE OPPORTUNITY:

As a Billing Coordinator, you are responsible for all aspects of drafting and finalizing client invoices for a group of dedicated attorneys.

 

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Coordinate with Partners, Attorneys and Secretaries to manage time entries and edits, adjustments, write-downs, rate management and bill posting.
  • Work directly with e-billing team to ensure that invoices that require electronic invoices are submitted timely.
  • Preparation and processing of high quality invoices. Prepare invoices in customized formats as required by clients and Partners. Perform override calculations and changes. Initiate requests for supporting documentation and review for accuracy.
  • Help to coordinate follow up on outstanding WIP and receivables. Work with assigned Partners to actively address aged unbilled fees and costs.
  • Assist Collections team with identification and reconciliation of payments received.
  • Provide basic financial data and analysis.
  • Work with billers and attorneys in other offices as needed.
 

YOU HAVE:

  • College degree preferred or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of three years of legal billing experience;
  • Experience with Aderant or Elite Enterprise strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize effectively

New York City, NY: The full time salary range for this role is $85,000 to $95,000 annually, which is based on a 35 hour work week.

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

As an Intellectual Property Docket Specialist, you will be responsible for reviewing and calendaring all intellectual property correspondence upon receipt and in accordance with firm guidelines. You will handle requests from attorneys, paralegals and secretaries related to a variety of trademark and patent docketing duties, including running regular and ad hoc reports.

 

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Enter new matters and applications in the Intellectual Property docketing software
  • Review and calendar all intellectual property correspondence upon receipt in accordance with firm guidelines
  • Process correspondence from international agents foreign associates
  • Perform quality control of recently docketed patent and trademark matters to ensure accuracy and conformance with best practices

  • Experience with CPI or equivalent rules-based intellectual property docketing software is required.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of U.S. and foreign patents, and US and foreign trademarks.

As an IP Paralegal, you will work with a premier team of internationally recognized and highly rated trademark and copyright attorneys in nine Seyfarth offices.  You will perform a variety of trademark and copyright prosecution and transactional duties for various attorneys and/or designated teams. This position interacts with colleagues in a team setting and upholds the image of the Firm by maintaining positive contact with clients, attorneys, other paralegals and staff and observing confidentiality of client matters.

 

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

On any given day, the IP Paralegal is asked to maintain a variety of responsibilities that may include but is not limited to the following list of functions:

  • Conducts trademark searches and prepares clearance reports to help determine mark availability in existing and new markets
  • Prepare and electronically file trademark applications, responses to office actions, Statements of Use, post-registration maintenance and renewal documents, trademark assignment documents, and other documents with USPTO
  • Manage applications and renewals from prosecution stage through to registration, and post-registration
  • Maintains intellectual property rights through the preparation and recording of registered user/licensing agreements, status reports and declarations of use
  • Prepare and electronically file Notices of Opposition, Petitions for Cancellation, and other motions and documents at TTAB
  • Work with foreign counsel to file trademark applications and maintenance documents
  • Assists with developing and implementing strategy for International trademark filings
  • Acts as client interface for trademark portfolios
  • Educates client on proper trademark use, trademark selection and trademark protection

  • Review and draft routine legal documents, including, but not limited to, various initial pleadings, answers, document requests and responses, interrogatories and other discovery, summons and affidavits.
  • Understand mechanics of e-filing and e-files with courts. File pleading and documents with state and federal courts and agencies, including organizing briefs, exhibits and appendices as well as ensuring proper compliance with notification rules, distribution of files and courtesy copies.
  • Prepare witness and matter materials for case preparation. Organize interview memos, digests and other relevant documents for attorney review and case preparation. Assist in preparing selected witnesses for trial.
  • Assist attorneys in preparation for depositions, gather and prepare documents, organize exhibits, take notes and handle exhibits during the deposition, digest transcripts.
  • Assist with hearing and motion practice, including assembling all relevant documents, proofreading papers, organizing exhibits and creating document indices in the preparation of motion filing.
  • Identifying and contacting experts who may help in a case.
  • Assist with trial preparation and trials. Organize exhibits, files and all other supporting documents, coordinate trial set-up and logistics. YOU HAVE:
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ litigation experience as a paralegal required. Labor and Employment experience preferred.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

As a Litigation Legal Secretary, you will provide a variety of secretarial and administrative duties for assigned attorneys. You will be responsible for interacting with colleagues in a team setting and upholding the image of the Firm by maintaining positive contact with clients, attorneys and staff, and observing confidentiality of client matters.

 

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

On any given day, you will be working with firm leadership, partners, and business colleagues on a variety of requests and projects. You will:

  • Assist attorneys with all aspects of intellectual property litigation, including litigation before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. This position will also support attorneys practicing labor and employment litigation.
  • Input, revise and finalize correspondence, memoranda and other legal documents.
  • Prepare trademark specific documents, including reporting letters to clients, and correspondence with U.S. and non-U.S. trademark counsel.
  • Monitor filing deadlines with the courts and TTAB or other applicable deadlines in state or foreign trademark offices. Will also assist with debit notes from non-U.S. trademark counsel.
  • Research and download trademark filings through TSDR and TESS.
  • Word processing of pleadings (to include TOAs and TOCs), agreements, declarations, letters, applications, memos and other documents. Proofread documents and check for appropriate formatting, spelling and grammar.
  • Print docket sheets and portfolios.
  • Input, revise, and finalize correspondence, memoranda and other legal documents. Draft routine correspondence, memoranda and other documents.
  • File legal documents in federal and state courts, including e-filing in all courts and agencies; prepare documents for service of process; prepare case “shell” documents for use by attorneys.
  • Verify all attachments, exhibits and enclosures are included with transmittal letters/memos.
  • Proofread documents and check for appropriate formatting, spelling and grammar.
  • Maintain good public relations with clients.
  • Review all incoming mail, distribute to teams as needed and upload to the DMS.
  • Prepare documents and packages for mail, messenger and overnight delivery.
  • Prepare expense reports, manage vendor invoices, mailings, and request checks as needed.
  • Enter attorney time. Send time entry reminders.
  • Assist with review and edit of bills as necessary.
  • Schedule appointment and make arrangements for meetings, conferences and travel.
  • Complete client/matter intake forms. Request conflicts of interest checks. Open new files. Prepare files to be closed.
  • Coordinate and follow through on requests and projects with other support departments (e.g., word processing, receptionists, file/document clerks, office services).
  • Provide overflow and absence coverage assistance as well as secretarial support for Secretarial Team Members’ attorneys.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
YOU HAVE:
  • A minimum of 5 years of trademark litigation as well as litigation secretarial experience. (Labor and Employment experience is a plus).
  • Recent experience at a large, national firm.
  • Strong proofreading skills, attention to detail and solid grammar/spelling skills.
  • High degree of proficiency with Microsoft programs (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Legal citation and legal terminology expertise.
  • Familiarity with Carpe Diem, Elite, IManage, Chrome River, InTapp, Forte or similar technology.
  • The ability to organize, prioritize and meet the demands off multiple attorney assignments.
  • Flexibility to work overtime occasionally.
  • Good attendance and punctuality.

THE DAY-TO-DAY:

On any given day, you will:

  • Draft documents including resolutions, contracts, leases, deeds, trust indentures, bond certificates, agreements, opinions, and other legal documents relating to bond issuance, ensuring all steps are completed and deadlines met
  • Regularly communicate with clients and other participants in the bond transaction to coordinate document review
  • Assist attorneys and paralegals in research, drafting, and revision of bond issue documents
  • Prepare applications and submissions for governmental consents and approvals of the transaction
  • Review drafts of all documents for consistent use of defined terms and accuracy of cross references
  • Prepare, obtain, and organize required closing certificates and legal documents for pre-closing
  • Assemble documents for signature and coordinate for their execution
  • Assist with file organization

YOU HAVE:

  • 3+ years of experience as a paralegal
  • Ability to visit Atlanta-metro area courts in-person
